Same name, different film: telling remakes and namesakes apart on Alluc

How the year on every card and the Language filter separate a remake from its original and a namesake from the film you meant.

The year decides

Every card carries the year beside the title, and when a search returns two films with the same name, the year is the first thing to read: the 2017 series and the 1990s film, the original and its remake, the sequel that reused the name. The title page then shows the original title, the country of production and the cast, which settles the rest.

The Language filter

On the search page, Language separates an English production from a German or Korean one with the same title, and Type separates a film from a series. The You may also like row under a film is built from the genre and the language, so the original of a remake is often one row away.

Franchises

For a first time through a franchise, release order is the sensible choice, and the year on every card gives it to you; Creed II after Creed, Endgame after Infinity War. The search guide covers the rest.
